Interior Castles

(a new poem by an old friend, Jerry Everett)

No Peace in death or joy in life

But by the acceptance of terror

An unwanted closeness

Mysterious

The caution that holds up our days

Our delusion of the fair and possible

The solitary right closing off the collective good

Leaving us praying in others temples

Seeking the change that leaves us as we are

All of us

Walk in the fire of our summer day

Our ecstasy waits out in the night as a lover
