People in public housing are freezing.
The victims of “benign neglect”
By those who “care about the poor”
If you ignore this, no one will know.
“It doesn’t matter.”
Freezing in your home matters.
Does what we do or don’t do?
Even if it it won’t turn on the heat.
Can we act without knowing it matters.
Or even what matters means anymore.
Can we take the calculation out of giving?
What we do comes from
Where we are.
The ties we have,
The promises we make,
Implicit and explicit.

Thanks for another thoughtful poem, Harry. Found this couplet most poignant:
Can we act without knowing it matters.
Or even what matters means anymore
Love…
