To Love a River

It’s a special joy

When love comes late in life.

New friends,

new intimacy with old ones.

A love affair

With the Battenkill.

You let me wade in you.

You share your brown trout

if I work for them.

You dazzle me with your beauty.

Caress me with your touch,

Confound me with your reticence,

And Welcome me home.

Always.
